Kelli's Page
Likewise, we would like to thank Dr. Aaron Hamvas, MD, who was the ONLY doctor in the United States that deals with
respiratory challenges who answered my letter (and I sent out a lot of letters). He was my primary contact with St. Louis
Children’s Hospital and he facilitated Kelligar’s move to this hospital. He and his associates, Dr. Camren Yusef, MD, Cathy
Phelps RN, Mary Gunn RN, Donna Peterson RT and Durinda Mullens RT, came to Phoenix to get a handle on Kelli’s
specific requirements and then became her primaries in St. Louis. They took excellent care of her and grew to love Kelli too.
They were regular visitors to Kelli’s room and still monitor her progress closely. We went to the PICU and then to a private
room so quickly we barely had a chance to have the same staff on a regular basis. Needless to say, her regular nurses and her
doctors, Maite de la Morena, MD, and Stuart Sweet, MD, have been great and integral in her triumphs and recovery.
Our Lung Transplant Coordinator, Pegi Shaner, and Clinical Social Worker, Martha Markovitz, have been tremendous
sources of information – I think I would have been immobilized without both of them! And of course, we want to thank Dr.
Eric Mendeloff for performing such a wonderful and mind-boggling surgery and for doing such a great job too (or so we’ve
heard!).
I could fill pages with excerpts on everything everyone has done for us. I can’t come close, however, to naming everyone and
I apologize for that. I should also mention that with the distance between Phoenix and St. Louis, the ongoing list of
contributors and contributions sometimes didn’t make it to me.
We have had so much given by people we don’t even know that we wouldn’t even know where to begin to thank them. We
hope that everyone knows the website address and would know that whether or not you are listed below that our heartfelt
thank you is meant for you as well. Since there isn’t enough space to mention all the prayers and gifts that have been sent,
the following is an attempt to list the individuals and companies we know that have made contributions on Kelli’s behalf.
